Multimedia Scriptwriting
Secrets!
by Richard Fellner
To cut costs on a presentation, managers
often make the mistake of writing the script themselves.
While this can appear harmless, it can actually have a disastrous effect on the
presentation!
A weak script will generally result in a dry, lifeless
(and essentially useless) presentation! Remember, a video
presentation is an extension
of your company image: do you want your company
image to be dry, lifeless and unfocussed?
"Even the most dazzling video effects or animations
can't cover up the faults of a poor script. (On the
other hand, a fantastic script can deliver results with
little or no video at all!)"
Writing for the ear is a complex and challenging process.
It requires strict training, well-honed skills, and a
healthy dose of real-world experience. Simply transferring your print marketing
copy onto a voiceover script can actually do more harm
than good, as it could alienate your viewers
& listeners, or bore them to the point that they'll
ignore the presentation (and your message) altogether.
In essence, a powerful, engaging and successful script
must:

Pinpoint the needs of your target audience, and tune into
their attitudes, motivations,
learning styles, and interests.

Strategically emphasize essential information, and present
it in logical sequences
that follow natural
listening rhythms and timing patterns.

Strictly follow a "Seven C's" formula:
clear, concise, creative, conversational, collaborative,
compelling, and, most importantly, must have
an irresistible call-to-action.
Of course, there are dozens of other critical elements
in any script. Forget even one of them, and your script
will fail to deliver the maximum impact required to achieve
your desired outcome. So it's no wonder why more and more
project managers are discovering the value in hiring a professional
scriptwriter!
